Chalet Annelis Apartments

The view from the bed was a yard full of green weeds, and the furniture felt sad and ugly. From the other window I could see several streets and plain buildings, one covered in scaffolding as if it had burned down after a riot. At ground level, people in the buildings, on the streets, and on the bus could see into the room, and could even step in through the windows. As a woman traveling alone, I felt I had to keep the curtains closed for safety. When I raised the concern, management wouldn't move me to a safer room without charging another 90 CHF. This felt like a roadside motel in Detroit, USA. There were fees for everything, much like a discount airline, and no services. The staircase photo shows the “reception”; check-in and check-out instructions were on a piece of paper on the desk. A notice by the side door said, “No information desk. No reception.” It's actually an air b&b. Towels and room cleaning were provided once a week, or it cost at least 30CHF. During my 4 nights/5 days, I had to reuse two old bath towels and a dirty bathroom floor towel. The sheets were clean, but the bedding insert smelled strange and disturbed my sleep. I got 4 coffee capsules, with each extra one costing 0.60CHF. There may also have been a 70CHF cleaning fee, which I need to confirm. It seemed like every little thing came with a charge. They'd left a dirty kitchen towel and dish sponge. After a couple of messages, the cleaning lady came, stone faced, searched through the cabinet, and finally replaced them with clean ones. She seemed so mad she didn't even shut the cabinet door. Then things got worse. On May 17, all of Zermatt lost power. There was no electricity, WiFi, landline, or even cellphone signal. The power came back around 9:30PM. No one from the Air B&B checked on guests or brought candles or anything else. We were left alone in the dark, with no way to contact the outside world. Those were my experiences, and I have photos to support them. Would you want to stay here?

The apartment is lovely, with beautiful rooms and a good location. You can see Matterhorn from the balcony.

The apartment had everything we needed, and we'd happily stay there again. It's close enough to the town centre, yet peaceful, and handy for the bus.

The rooms are clean, but the restroom needs renovating and the kitchen is really small. There wasn't enough soap for washing dishes. The ski room is dirty, too small, and unheated. The stairs to the room weren't cleaned properly, so when snow fell and froze they became dangerously slippery. Even on a long stay, you only get fresh towels and bed sheets once, and they don't clean.
