Malteserhaus

We picked Malteserhaus for a family trip and feel lucky we did. It’s beautifully renovated, very clean and roomy enough for all four of us. We booked a Matterhorn view in Room 10, which was stunning; Room 12 above us has an even better view, so request that one. The kitchenette is large and well equipped. The place is a bit tucked away rather than on the main road, but it’s a short walk to the popular bridge for Matterhorn photos. Google Maps sent us the wrong way at first, so look for Hotel Europe, which is right behind it. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the train station. The bus 572 we were advised to take only runs in the evening, and taxis can be pricey, around $30. You also have to wash your own dishes and carry rubbish about 300m to throw it out. We’re having a good stay.

The balcony gives you a view of the Matterhorn, and the kitchen makes it easy to prepare food. The apartment is great, with a comfortable room and everything you need.

Finding the place was a little tricky, and the walk from the station was okay but steeper than it looked. I couldn't find reception, though the manager spotted us and showed us in. The comfortable, good-sized room had a handy pull-down bed, a large bathroom, a well-equipped kitchenette, tea, a coffee maker and good free Wi-Fi. The balcony doesn't face the Matterhorn, and the manager was helpful. My main complaint is having to take rubbish to a bin about 300 metres away, as well as washing the dishes. I didn't fancy the rubbish walk in today's rain, especially after paying a cleaning fee that I expect to cover it all. Still, for this time of year, it’s good value for money in the area.

It was easy to reach from the train station, and seeing the Matterhorn every day was a treat. The restaurants we tried all had great food. The staff were very helpful and made sure we were comfortable. A wonderful place to stay while enjoying what Zermatt has to offer, and I highly recommend Malteserhaus.
