The people at Sunset Resort were lovely throughout, from our first questions about booking to check-in and even a morning Ki Orana. They said booking directly with them would cost less than using an agency or booking online, and we found that to be true. We stayed five nights in the 2 Bedroom Beachfront Suite for my nephew's wedding in Rarotonga, with my wife and daughter. It was right by the seafront and had a separate gated entrance from the rest of the resort, plus a veranda, deck chairs, and an outdoor table. The living area and both bedrooms had air-conditioning, which Sunset had turned on before we arrived, so it was cool despite the heat. The room was clean and well presented, with a separate bathroom and two toilets. The beds were comfortable, and there were four coffee pods, with extras available at reception, and milk in the fridge. We were told the tap water was drinkable, though we bought bottled water. It’s about five minutes from the Airport and under ten from the main town. You can drive around the Island in about 20 minutes, and having a rental car made getting around easy. I’d recommend Sunset Resort for a quiet retreat to relax, read, or lounge by the sea or pool. If you’re young and after a drinking spot for a big night with friends, it probably isn’t for you.

The beach is just steps from the room, with a phenomenal view. It’s not really a swimming beach, but the snorkeling is some of the best you can find without paying a guide, with a coral reef full of fish and sea life right there. The staff go out of their way to help, the rooms are comfortable and everything works well, and the restaurant food is great. The pool bar also has different happy hour drinks each day. This resort is simply fantastic and punches way above its weight.

A bedside reading lamp that worked a little better would be helpful, especially for anyone who reads at night. Still, we had a lovely, unforgettable treat at The Sunset Resort. Everyone was friendly, accommodating, and helpful with our questions. Thanks to the whole team. We’d definitely come back.

The beach and sunset were incredible, the most amazing sunset we’ve ever seen. We also loved the island food at the restaurant, and I miss it already. The facilities were very clean, and the garden was beautifully maintained, making the place feel like a dream. The staff were cheerful, polite, and always smiling. Candace picked us up, took us to the Market, and later dropped us at the airport for our bittersweet trip home. Tina took such good care of us, and the people serving cocktails were so warm and welcoming. Five days in Paradise. We’ll definitely come back. Meitaki!

The Birdcage Bar was very good, and Anchorage Restaurant was my favorite. The beach and lagoon access were great for snorkeling, and the rooms and grounds looked impeccable. I liked seeing the staff work on the place every day to keep improving its appearance. The receptionists were fantastic. Hailey, Ti Wai, Tina, and the beautiful blonde short-haired lady looked after us so well. They arranged our excursions, dinners, massages, and transfers, and seemed to switch effortlessly between all kinds of tasks. Their friendliness felt genuine, and we were happy and well cared for. We’ll choose it again in the future. Meitaki ma'ata for making our Rarotonga stay unforgettable! ❤️
