The grounds were what really got me, with so many kinds of trees and plants. This old hacienda has rooms set around an inner courtyard, and it once housed and supported elderly priests. My room was spacious, the bed was comfy, and the en-suite shower had hot water. Breakfast is served in a roomy hall. It’s a few blocks from the Square, though the beach is a long way from everything. I’d drive to Pellay anyway. The owner speaks English. I LOVED IT! Such a historic place.

You can see the town’s history hanging, quite literally, on the walls of this remarkable colonial house. For a stay in Cobquecura or Buchupureo, it’s one of the best places.

What a disgrace. We paid for full service, but there was no hot water in the room, the main door key didn’t work, and the minibar contents didn’t match the menu. The owner didn’t offer a sensible fix. She told us to inspect the boiler and water heater ourselves and didn’t even come by. Then she suggested a room change, despite our having paid for a double, and wanted to put us in a single with a smaller bathroom. On hot days there was no proper ventilation at all: no air conditioning, no fan, nothing.
