After five days of hiking, we were exhausted and looking for somewhere to stay. The hotel was full, but the owner called another place and found us a room, saving us from searching all over town. That kindness to people who weren't even guests says a lot about the welcome here. I'll book ahead next time.

We stayed one night while traveling along La Carretera Austral. Carlos and his wife welcomed my sister and me right away, and gave us genuinely useful information about Cochrane. Our room was excellent, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Carlos even offered to drive us to the pier for our tour. Cochrane is beautiful, and I'd stay at Ultimo Paraíso again.

We found this place during our six-week trip and ended up coming back for several more nights. The woodwork was beautiful, even the bamboo ceiling, and the accommodations felt classy. Carlos and Neal also gave us essential advice for the next few days of our trip. Everything was very clean, breakfast was great, and their tips were excellent.

I was cycling the Carretera Austral and stayed here in 2007, just after it had been built. The owner took me fly fishing and gave me lessons, and the place was very comfortable, even back then.

Our car trouble could have wrecked the holiday. Carlos called friends around town and somehow got us back on the road the next day, even though our rental company had said it couldn't be done. That's the kind of help Carlos and Nela give: they welcomed us like family and were understanding, compassionate, and incredibly helpful. The room was cozy and warm, with a great bathroom, hot water, and everything we needed. Hotel Ultimo Paraiso felt like a home away from home.
