Hostel Sherpa

We arrived in Illapel after dark, and although the owner wasn’t there, a neighbor took care of the arrangements. Our bikes were safely stored in a garage on the corner. We paid $34,000 for a clean, pleasant single room with a large bed and private bathroom, and there’s a shared kitchen too. We felt very welcome 🙏

The colorful dining and cooking areas, garden, hammocks, and relaxed shared lounge make this Hostal feel like a little oasis. Our bedroom was bright and clean as well. We’d come back to Sherpas without hesitation if we’re ever in this part of Chile again. We only ended up staying there because we happened to meet Erick Sherpa while cycling into Illapel, but we were lucky to find him. He’s a lovely guy who made us feel welcome and was interested in hearing about our trip. Thanks for everything, friend!

Eric’s a great guy, and this is a really good hostel. The rooms and kitchen were clean, the shower was hot, and prices were cheap.

Sherpa feels like a real friend, as well as a superhost. Best hostel in the world.
