The quiet hours need stricter enforcement in the inner garden. During my stay, a group of loud guests drank and carried on there until well past 1 a.m. for a day or two. At the time, the bushes and flowers were all blooming, and the garden smelled wonderful. It’s an old house turned into a hotel with a hostal feel. My room was spacious and had its own bathroom, and housekeeping was very good. Breakfast could be better. It was an inexpensive alternative to the usual clinical-feeling hotel.

The beds were very comfortable, and although it got cold at night, as it seems to in every hotel, they provided a heater. The shampoo was lovely too. It’s close to the centre of La Serena, and I met the owner, who was absolutely lovely.

I liked having a dining hall where I could get some work done, and the courtyard is just as bright and refreshing as the hotel. The photos don’t really do the place justice. It felt very safe, had parking, and was still within walking distance of the center of La Serena.

The staff were super friendly and made the place feel like family. I stayed three nights, then came back for another four. My room was large, had a private bathroom and electric heating, and daily housekeeping kept it really clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple and nice, served either in the room or the breakfast room. There’s a beautiful courtyard with flowering roses and bushes, good for stretching in the morning, plus a small exercise room with basic weights. It’s centrally located, half a block from the shared taxis and buses to the airport and Coqimbo, and close to the bus station for longer trips, including the Punta de Choros boat tour to see penguins.

The neighbourhood is quiet and the hotel is near the centre. Breakfast was great, and you can have it in the dining room or your room. Housekeeping was superb, everything was very clean.
