Primera Hacienda Hotel Boutique

A charming little boutique hotel, with lovely rooms, friendly staff, and grounds that are clearly well cared for. The breakfast spread was generous and the decor was just right. I'd absolutely stay again if I ever make it back to La Serena. It seems like the best spot in town.

I had to get to Chile at very short notice for a family emergency, and Maria Eugenia, who runs the hotel, helped me so much through a really difficult time. I'll always remember that. The hotel was wonderful, the staff were very friendly, and the rooms felt cozy and welcoming. I'll definitely stay there next time.

My credit card statement showed a charge more than $100 above the amount I agreed to when I booked through hotels.com. I cancelled before the deadline, but as of late January I still hadn't received my refund. I tried calling, and they wouldn't answer. I don't usually post reviews, but I'm furious that they've kept my $600 even though I followed their policies and rules. I can't recommend booking here when they can overcharge without your consent and then keep the money.

Primera Hacienda has only 8 rooms, and it feels like a little oasis right in the city. The owner grew up in the house, which her grandfather built, and she and her husband have made it an incredibly lovely place where we felt like royalty. Their newest addition is a dining room at the back of the property. Guests can have dinner there, cooked by her husband, Roberto, who's from Argentina. We had delicious steaks, pastas, and risottos, and breakfast is served there for guests each morning. Highly recommended.
