The drive from Santiago through the Andes was beautiful, with incredible scenery along the way. Once we reached El Colorado, the views were overwhelming, and we had fun both on the slopes and in the snow. We also rode the chairlift up to the panorama restaurant, which was a lot of fun.

The trails can be confusing: some run into the next resort without any signs, and getting back can be difficult. You may have to take a bus, since that resort won’t let you return on its lift. Also, they close 30 minutes before the schedule says, so keep that in mind. Paying with Visa gets you a discount. The skiing itself is lovely. I’d compare the Blues here to the Greens at Whistler, Canada, which might help if you’ve skied there and are picking a route. There are a few vegetarian choices at the base. I wasn’t especially fond of them, but it was nice to have something available after skiing.

On a sunny Sunday it wasn’t crowded at all, and many slopes were in very good shape. The ski lifts are a little old.

Bring gloves, water, and food or snacks, since there weren’t any facilities open during the covid period. I paid around 70 000 CLP for lessons, equipment, and a ski pass. The rental gear included skis, boots, and a helmet, and if you’re injured, as I was, a rescue service comes to help free of charge. It’s a good place to learn. The staff were friendly and tried hard to help even if you don’t speak Spanish, from finding the cheapest price and fitting equipment to helping you find your way home. They have instructors too, though I’m not a very quick learner! The road up is beautiful, and you can catch glimpses of the magnificent Condor bird. A must-see if you’re visiting Chile.
