The location is hard to beat, and our room was clean with thick curtains that kept out the light. Breakfast was good, with the usual sliced meat, cheese, bread, yogurt, cereal, and a pie-like item each day. There’s an espresso machine, but only at breakfast. Still, service and value felt better at a cheaper place we stayed in Pucon. Frontera won’t serve breakfast before 9 am, even when you’re heading out early for a hike. The other place made us breakfast to go. They also wouldn’t turn on the heat unless the temperature met some arbitrary guidelines, while our next hotel turned it on right away. Laundry isn’t offered at this hostel, either. Noise carries a lot: you can hear people on the stairs and every door closing. There’s no TV in the rooms. It could work for someone who sleeps through noise but wants a dark room, though there are better options for services.

The owners are extremely nice, and Margarita, the caretaker, was especially sweet and hospitable. We stayed three nights and hadn’t checked out yet when I wrote this. The beautiful house has an amazing view of the Volcan Villarica. Breakfast was delicious typical Chilean food, perfect fuel for hiking and sightseeing. I’d give this place six stars if I could.

The view from this hostel is awesome, and the service was excellent. It’s right at an outstanding sightseeing spot.

The owners were so kind to us and the other guests, and gave us great tips about the city, getting around, and things to do. We’re a fairly demanding couple, but this boutique hotel, despite calling itself a hostel, really surprised us. The decor and facilities are in excellent taste, and the rooms feel very cozy, with spotless, comfortable carpet. The towels were excellent quality, as was the toilet paper. Breakfast was simple but very well made. The street was quiet, and there was a fully equipped kitchen to use, with water freely available. I’d stay here again and recommend it to anyone who cares about a quality stay.
