Hotel Cabo De Hornos

Our stay was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks especially to Ania. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the restaurant food was delicious, though the dulce de leche flan wasn't as sweet as I'd expected. Breakfast was okay, nothing special but perfectly fine. The bedroom gets very warm at night, so it helps to keep water nearby. There's a refill station in the corridor next to the elevators. The reservation says parking is available, but it's first come, first served, so you may well need to use paid street parking. You can tell the hotel has been renovated, though the bathroom feels a little dated. The bathtub has been painted and the paint is peeling slightly.

Jose Villanueva in the restaurant took great care of us. I saw him help a woman with a walker get her food, walking alongside her and helping her fill her plate with the items she chose. That's an excellent employee. The staff and housekeeping gave exceptional attention, and the rooms and food were great.

This doesn't feel like the service you'd expect at a hotel claiming to be 4-star. On my second stay, I tried to arrange a massage at the spa through the hotel's chat link. They got back to me about 1.5 hours later asking what time I wanted. I replied 11 AM, which seemed perfectly reasonable, then waited another hour to hear that it wasn't possible. On my first stay, the toilet seat kept falling off, so I asked for it to be fixed and assumed maintenance would handle it while I was out. When I got back, the room door was wide open, with nobody inside. I waited in case the maintenance person had stepped out briefly, especially since the seat still wasn't fixed, but the door had just been left open and no repair was done. I contacted maintenance again through the chat system, the only way to reach them, since there's no one you can actually speak with. They claimed everything had been fixed. Horrible service.

The rooms and location are excellent, and reception staff were friendly. Still, nobody seemed particularly helpful with suggestions about what to do or where to go, unlike the other hotels I've reviewed on this trip, where people were engaging and helpful. We also sat down for a drink and dinner in the bar/restaurant, but after 15 mins, with 7 waiters available and only 12 people there, nobody came to take our order. We got up and left, and no one seemed to care. I wonder if the clientele are mostly one time users and staff feel there's "not really importantly" to them. It's a shame, because with better service this could be a genuine 5 star place.
