There’s a nice garden around the lodge and lovely mountain views, which make it a peaceful setting. The rooms are simple but cozy, with a heater and dependable hot water, both welcome during chilly Altiplano nights. Breakfast was reasonably good, though the stated 07:30 start is when they begin preparing it, so it’s usually closer to 08:00 before it’s ready. That can be inconvenient if you’re heading early to Lauca National Park. English isn’t spoken, but you can communicate with some patience. Card payment is accepted, which is handy in a small town like Putre.

The staff were pleasant and showed us a map with things to do, though most of it was already familiar from our Google research. They didn’t seem to prioritize guest comfort, and their hospitality skills felt limited. The lodge no longer has Italian owners, and there are no tours or gasoline on site, despite what the website says. They did point us to three places in town that might have gas. Some rooms have safes and some don’t. The rooms are extremely basic, even when updated, and very small. At night the place is poorly lit and signed. There’s no tranquility or warmth, and the garden isn’t peaceful: a busy road runs beside it, with buses, lorries, army trucks, and cars passing all day. Rooms by the road are very noisy until 11pm, then again from 5am. Breakfast was limited, with no fresh-brewed coffee and no milk unless requested. It was served in an unheated, freezing room. There’s no fresh drinking water provided, at breakfast or during the day, and the water isn’t potable. No coca tea either. Staff are on site but generally out of sight, and reception is locked after breakfast. There are no refreshments during the day, no coca tea, and no hot or cold water. The website seems to describe what the lodge may have been under previous owners, but it doesn’t match what’s offered now. The nightly prices are far too high for what you get.

The set breakfast was generous, with a bit of everything, and changed each day. The rooms were cozy and faced the mountains, with a great bed and bedding, nice decorative touches, and good lighting. Heaters were super powerful and hot water plentiful. It was very quiet and peaceful. WiFi was usually okay, though it didn’t always work well.

For a remote little village, this is a really nice hotel, probably the best in town. Clean, with good beds and hot water, which is all you need here. The continental breakfast was okay, nothing more. We used it as our base for three nights and recommend it. There are very few rooms, so book early.

The owners made us feel welcome and were helpful, and the warm fresh bread at breakfast was delicious. The lodge is lovely, with rooms and beds that are very well equipped. We arranged a tour through them, and it was okay.
