Diego de Almagro San Pedro de Atacama

My stay at Hotel de Almagro was very disappointing from the start, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The room cleaning was poor: it looked as if they’d only made the bed, and the carpet was dusty. The toilet paper ran out and wasn’t replaced by housekeeping. With all the desert dust in San Pedro de Atacama, they should be vacuuming regularly. I also asked to switch from a room with two beds to one with a single bed. Reception blamed the agency booking and refused to help find a solution. Their attitude was unpleasant and unhelpful throughout. At check-in, the person at the desk seemed unaware of my reservation and asked whether I’d booked through an agency, which struck me as unprofessional. When I asked for hot water to make coca tea for altitude sickness, the receptionist saw my thermos and refused to fill it, saying they only offered one cup as a courtesy. I wasn’t asking for it free; they could simply have told me to pay for more. I hope they improve these problems so other guests don’t have the same experience.

We stayed two nights and felt we got our money’s worth. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable, with good showers. The staff were very friendly, and the location is excellent.

Breakfast had lots of fresh, tasty choices, and the main street is only about a 3 minute walk away. I stayed for two nights, though the rooms are old. There’s no AC, so it got hot and stuffy during the day. I couldn’t leave the window open then because bugs would fly in, though I did leave it open at night to catch a breeze.

It’s 2025, and still there’s no Wi-Fi in the rooms. They sent us to the lobby to get online, but we couldn’t connect there either. Reception’s answer was that too many people were using it, so we should wait until someone disconnected. Great, thanks!
