Hostal Casa Campestre

The kitchen and dining area were lovely, and the showers and toilets were super clean. The campground itself was nice and the owners friendly enough. But an illegal rave was happening just down the road. For both nights we stayed, loud people walked back and forth beside the site and music and noise kept me awake from 12.30am until 5am.

The breakfast was nice, and the location was lovely for looking at the sky outside. But that was about it. People kept coming and going, just like the wifi, and it was noisy at night. The short dark haired receptionist wasn't interested in helping us with tours. Whenever I saw her, she was smoking or playing on her phone, so we had to book through another agency. That's a loss for the hostel. You definitely need a new receptionist and tour manager, because she was unmotivated and rude. San Pedro has plenty of hostels with more to offer and better management. With a quieter place and a more helpful receptionist, this would have been amazing and could make more money :)

The night sky was the main reason I'd consider coming back, since the hostel is far enough out that streetlights don't spoil the stars. I was there for one night. The TV area was nice, with good channels for relaxing, and the bathrooms were decent and clean, though there was never any toilet roll. The body wash was a nice free extra. The dorm was dark, with six beds and just one flickering light. Breakfast looked good, but turned out to cost extra, which was a bit disappointing when even basic bread and butter is complimentary at many hostels. Payment was cash only, and they had no change, so you needed the exact amount. If a business only takes cash, it should have change. The location is a little out of the way. I'd only stay again for the stars.

The shared spaces were really nice, and the staff member who checked us in was lovely and helpful. Our stay in San Pedro was clean, spacious and comfortable. The dorm rooms felt quite basic for the price, though, and the Wi-Fi was maddeningly slow.
