Courtyard by Marriott Santiago Airport

Ordering at the hotel restaurant was a struggle, even though the staff were trying to help. We showed them a Google Review photo of chicken with potatoes and asked what the dish was. After lots of gestures and explanations, they said it was chicken breast and potatoes. We asked to swap the potatoes for rice, then got a very bare plate with just a pan-fried chicken breast and a small scoop of rice. We eventually negotiated our way to a pizza instead. The following day our stomachs were in revolt, and we made several urgent trips to the restroom, including during the flight. I can't say what caused it, but the timing made for a pretty dramatic digestive episode. Definitely memorable, though more for the adventure than the food.

The room was clean and the burger I ordered at the bar was pretty good, but the front desk was terrible. I asked through the Bonvoy-App for a Late-Check Out because of my flight time. They took all day to reply, then turned me down dismissively. When I came back the next day to collect my luggage, I asked to use the shuttle, which is usually included in my stay. They refused because my stay had ended. That may fit their terms and conditions, but the shuttle was already preparing to leave right outside, and letting me on would have cost the hotel nothing. It says a lot about the employees' attitude. Also, the AC in my room didn't work, and I slept very badly.

The room felt like a Latin American hotel from 30 years ago. Its “air conditioner” was incredibly loud and didn't cool very well. The whole stay was a letdown compared with our time in Santiago a week earlier. We should have stayed in town and taken an Uber instead of the shuttle, which took ages to arrive. When we got to the hotel, the 6:00am shuttle was full, so we ended up getting that Uber after all.

The kind, helpful front desk staff were easily the best part of this hotel. Breakfast was a very different story. It was meant to begin at 6:00 a.m., but when we showed up, the dining room attendant waved us away because it wasn't ready. There wasn't even milk for coffee or teaspoons for the yogurt and porridge. When we asked, the staff member just gestured helplessly. Half the food wasn't prepared, and the chafing dishes were empty. This wasn't a proper breakfast. At an airport hotel, many guests have early flights and need something quick and organized, so this was really disappointing. It's a shame the breakfast service was so bad when reception was so friendly.
