Gnomo Hostel

Guests are international backpackers, and there’s kitchen access. It’s a great spot to socialize, in a lovely old house with graffiti-covered walls in the middle of a huge party area. The staff are super nice. Streets get noisy at night, especially on weekends, when thousands head into the area for parties, discos, and clubs.

The staff are about as friendly, welcoming, and relaxed as you could hope for. The place has a great kitchen and dining area, a lounge, a pool table, a small collection of books, and even a couple of bikes to use. There’s no laundry, though. What a change from the bland, standardized look of most hostels. This place feels cozy and one of a kind, with real care put into the design. The rooms are great value, with high ceilings, wooden floors, and lots of light. The building has kept its original character, right down to the distinctive windows and doors and the creaky stairs. My friend and I are traveling around South America, and this is one of the best hostels we’ve stayed at. The vibe and atmosphere are amazing, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Really good hostel.

The owners run the place terribly, but the volunteers do their best to keep you comfortable and happy. The parties are good.
