We stayed four nights in a superior matrimonial room and slept like babies to the sound of waves right outside. Strong winds make waves on the lake, and it was mesmerizing. The room was warm and comfortable, with a beautiful view, and the staff were lovely. I didn’t mind that it was a bit older at all. This is one of the few more affordable places in the park, and I’d happily stay again.

Dinner comes as a set three-course menu, with a drink included. We shared a meal that day and had shrimp risotto as the main course, along with an appetizer, soup, and dessert. There weren’t other dinner dishes to choose from, but the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly.

I don’t understand the low ratings. The lodge is in a stunning spot in the national park, close to gorgeous hikes like Mirador Cuernos, Mirador Condor and Salto Grande. The people working there were wonderful and friendly. Yes, it’s old, but the beds are clean and comfortable, there are hot showers, and the heater keeps the room warm. Hang wet clothes on the radiator to dry. Dinner was delicious too. We booked two nights here and two at Rio Serrano after seeing the low score, but looking back, I wish we’d stayed all four nights here.

The location and view are the best parts. With everything inside the park costing so much, I can see why $350 a night might seem reasonable for a very basic double room. Still, most things in the room felt outdated or inadequate, including an uncomfortable bed and one hard, high pillow. Breakfast was good, but the $50 dinner was terrible, cold and plain in both presentation and taste.

I’m surprised anyone has left a positive review. Maybe it’s because the restaurant doesn’t have a separate review, and the views really are great, even though the food is bad. The biggest issue for me was that hot water was only available after 6 pm. I never saw that before booking, or I wouldn’t have spent $450 US. The room was old and dirty, the included breakfast was poor, and the food on site was barely edible. The person working at the side cafe was quite nice. I can’t say the same for the front desk worker. I’d try any of the other hotels in TDP.
