Kapai Hostel

We stayed in a cabana, which was cozy and a great price. The room was clean, reception was very good, the shower had great hot water pressure, and there were plenty of places to sit. Wi-Fi worked well too. It’s a lovely place to stay in Valdivia, right across from the river walk and with easy access to the center. I recommend it.

The location is great, about a 10-minute walk to the bus station and centro. It’s a good hostel with okay rooms, good service, and hot showers. But 1,500 pesos for an old, musty towel?

They tried to charge me Chilean VAT as a non-Chilean, but after I discussed it with them, I didn’t have to pay. Later, I got a message saying they wanted to mark me as a no-show on Booking.com. I assume that was to avoid paying the fee to Booking. I protested, and they didn’t go ahead. Shady. They charge for every extra. Late check-out is understandable, but early check-in too? Then there’s 3k for luggage storage and 4k to use the kitchen after checkout. What next, charge for Wi-Fi, water, electricity? It made me feel like a cash cow, with no hospitality vibes at all. They’re the only hostel in town and seem to take advantage of that with a pretty high standard rate. Annoying!

The staff were really helpful and attentive, and the premises were clean, especially the toilets. The location was good too. It was a lovely stay for me, and I’d recommend it.
