Hotel Oceanic

The breakfast was fresh, filling, and something we looked forward to each morning. They brought it to the room, with scrambled eggs, guacamole, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, a different fresh-squeezed juice each day, ham, cheese, bread, and rolls. The room was clean, and the cleaning staff worked hard every day. We could hear the ocean and see it over a large roof covered in bird droppings. The room was worn and old, but I do believe it was clean. The bathroom had good pressure for flushing and showering, and there was a minibar we didn’t use. The room we booked looked beautiful, but unfortunately it wasn’t the one we got. We stayed four nights in late February, off season for the beaches, and paid over US $250 a night, close to $1,100 total for Sunday to Wednesday. For us, that’s a lot. The room we got was small, with an uncomfortable bed, old-looking sheets and blanket, dingy old towels that matched the sheets, and old chairs. The TV had no channels, so you had to use your own subscriptions to watch anything. I’m gluten-free because of an allergy, and they told me there’d be an extra $3 charge each day. That felt very cheap when we were paying over $250 a night. Honestly, I’ve traveled all around the world, and I’d say this was probably worth about $65 a night. It was disappointing. At checkout, they send someone to your room to check that you haven’t stolen anything or taken anything from the minibar.

My husband is disabled and has a guide dog, and when we arrived, the property said they couldn’t accommodate disabled guests. The manager asked us to leave and didn’t care when I said it was discrimination. I told them I’d file a report with the EEOC or whatever organization handles disability issues, because I believe refusing disabled guests is against the law. The service and experience were horrible. As we left, we saw a car outside that had been broken into the night before, so maybe it was good we didn’t stay. If you’re disabled, don’t stay here. They shouldn’t be listed on booking.

We only stayed one night at Hotel Oceanic and absolutely loved it. The view and pool were amazing, and the hotel has lots of charm. The staff were so lovely, and they brought breakfast right to our room on time so we could eat on the patio. It was a great experience.

Being right on the ocean was incredible, and we could hear the waves hitting the rocks all night. We loved our stay at Hotel Oceanic, it was truly unique and one we’ll remember forever. The room with a balcony was great for sitting out at sunset and in the mornings. The staff were so sweet, and we were lucky to meet the owner’s son, who shared the hotel’s beautiful history. There isn’t much within walking distance, but it’s easy to get an Uber if you don’t have a car. Breakfast came to our room each morning, and we also had room service one night and a few bottles of wine. It was all very good.
