Hotel de Malte

After spending some years abroad, I came back to find the hotel hasn’t been maintained regularly. Some rooms are great, while others aren’t; you might even come across a bathtub that only partly works.

The place is clean and has a beautiful view, but sleeping was impossible. Music from a gym behind the hotel blared for almost 20 hours a day, and guests talked loudly in the corridors or played music after midnight. There was no Wi-Fi, and I had no hot water for my entire week-long stay.

For a hotel in the university town of Dschang, home to its famous museum, this place is disappointing. It doesn’t live up to the reputation people have given it.

A few years ago Hotel de Malte was a lovely little place. Now, poor maintenance and low-quality service have left it needing a lot of work to get back to its former standard. Two weeks ago, I asked for a refund and moved to another hotel in the city. There was no remote for either the TV or the A/C, small cockroaches had spread through the room, and the maintenance staff were uncaring and even rude when I reported problems. I’d had enough, so I left.
