Breakfast was awful, with very little to choose from, porridge that was watered down, and plates that made the meal feel like military rations. The hotel was huge, so we had to haul our luggage all the way along the corridors to the last room. Our room hadn’t been cleaned well either. There was only half a cup of water, and staff hadn’t even cleaned it. A hole in the showerhead made the stay even less pleasant. I don’t want to return.

With group lodging and meals, there isn’t much to get excited about. Xinjiang gets long hours of sunshine, and even though the time zone hasn’t changed, the daily schedule feels different. You gradually get used to it.

Getting onto the Wi-Fi was difficult, and breakfast was very basic. They only let people in at 7 am, so everyone rushed in together, creating a major bottleneck and an unpleasant dining area.
