For a budget stay near the Palace Museum and Tiananmen, I’d recommend 7 Days Inn Tiananmen. There are also plenty of food vendors within two blocks, and they’re much cheaper and better than the hotel’s extra cost breakfast, which wasn’t very good. The facilities felt worn and outdated. When we arrived at 22:00, the room hadn’t been cleaned, despite the ten hours since the required checkout time. We had booked just 30 minutes before arriving, to be fair. The staff turned the room around in under 15 minutes, and cleaned it thoroughly.
