Ariva Beijing West Hotel Serviced Apartment

After two nights without sleep, I had to leave Ariva while seven months pregnant. The economical rooms have unpadded “health beds.” I’d stayed in suites there before and asked to upgrade to one with a softer bed, but the service desk said all the beds were the same. Better suites were available for two nights, yet they wouldn’t let me use one because my trip was longer. The manager also refused, told me to sleep on pillows, which I’d already tried without success, and said my whole trip had to be booked in one room. I couldn’t even book one night in an upgraded suite. It was dark and raining heavily when I left with my suitcase. All the taxis were taken because of the weather, so I had to walk out to the street alone. Even though I’d had no sleep for two nights, they charged me for a third night I didn’t use because it was past 6pm. I didn’t know where I was going to go. I called my boss and took the subway to another hotel, where the beds were much more comfortable. It was a traumatic experience, and it took me three years to decide to write this review. I hope I never have to think of Ariva again. If you care about how hotels should treat their customers, take your business to Park Plaza Hotel instead.

The place still feels fancy and isn’t too expensive, with lovely rooms and friendly staff. They don’t speak much English, though, and the property is starting to fall apart. The ceiling above the pool is coming down, and spider webs are gathering in the corners.

One evening, the police unexpectedly came to us with hotel staff. The language barrier made it hard for us to explain things to the police. I felt it was the hotel management’s responsibility to deal with them.

A beautiful hotel, with nice rooms and facilities. The view and food are awesome.
