Beijing Guizhou Hotel

We stayed two weeks, four people spread across three rooms. The beds were among the better ones we've had in Asia, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable with good bathrooms. The air conditioning in one room failed, but they moved us to another room that same day. Breakfast was okay. I liked the Asian choices and the homemade yoghurt, though the breakfast staff didn't show much initiative beyond clearing used plates. We had to find our own clean chopsticks, knives, and spoons. Reception staff had very limited English, and the hotel didn't reply to emails. The coffee was awful, served lukewarm from an old pot. There's a cappuccino machine behind the counter, but the drinks cost more than at Starbucks and were very mediocre. In most four star hotels I use in China or Taiwan, guests can use that kind of machine for free.

The service was appreciated, and breakfast was good. The rooms are generally great, though the maintenance team should check some of the lights, including bulbs or switches.

The hotel has some downsides. Wi-Fi works, but the internet can be slow at times. A few people at reception speak English, though you may have to look around to find them. They took a deposit equal to the full cost of the stay, so it's best to have twice the room money available. Breakfast leans more toward Chinese food. Still, I’d give it at least 4 out of 5.
