Food was easy to find nearby, with lots of inexpensive Chinese restaurants around, probably thanks to the university. For getting around, I’d take the bus from Xizhimen to Beijing Jiaotong University, the second stop, then walk about three minutes. With an Ipass card it’s only 1 yuan. Xizhimen Station is also about a 15-minute walk away. The main entrance says “Jintai Zhijia,” even though the hotel is called Meiyuan Hotel, so watch for that when you’re looking for it. I had a twin room without breakfast. It cost ¥5,000 per room per night, which felt worth it, and the stay wasn’t bad.

The standard room has two beds and isn’t especially spacious, but it comes with a shower, TV, internet, and hair dryer. Service was decent, and the online rate was 199 yuan for a standard room, relatively affordable for this area. The aquarium is right across the street and the zoo is nearby. You need a key card to use the elevator, and there are no stairs available.
