Beijing Xinqiao Hotel

Breakfast was good and offered a mix of Asian and Western food. The lobby felt modern and welcoming, but the rooms were quite old, and the carpet looked worn and not very clean. The location is great, just a few steps from the subway, so it’s easy to get around Beijing.

The location is very good, and the lobby has been updated with a fancy look. The staff are kind, and the AC worked well when I stayed in June/July 2025. But that wasn’t the main issue. The rooms are more than 20 years old, and smoking used to be allowed in them, so some smell of old smoke and damp wood. If you smoke in the room, expect an 800 yuan fine. At least then you might feel at home and not mind the smell. It’s an old 4-star hotel, and if you can, I’d choose somewhere more modern.

For winter stays, be aware that some rooms face the street and others look inward over the dining area. I had an inward-facing room in December 2024, and the AC only supplied warm or hot air, with no option for cool air. It got too warm and stuffy, so I asked for a fan. Moving to a street-facing room would have meant paying another 70 yuan per night. The location is excellent, right at Exit B of Chongwenmen metro station. There’s a popular bakery beside the hotel, with eateries and shopping malls across the street. Toiletries, slippers and a hairdryer were provided. The room was spacious, though the design felt dated, and the orange lighting didn’t help. Breakfast was nothing special and became repetitive after a couple of days.

Great location, but the rooms are small and very old, like 30 years or more.
