Modern, clean, functional and nicely designed, this hotel is super close to the airport. The shuttle runs around the clock, is prompt and easy to find. Staff were really helpful and friendly, with great customer service. They even packed breakfast for me because I had an early flight. I'll stay here again on my next long layover.

The pool area was in poor shape: broken tiles cut my son, the sauna was off, and the water felt colder than it should. There were no towels in the gym or water glasses, and no breakfast bags for early checkouts. The WiFi wouldn't connect to any sites at all, not just the sites blocked in China. Reception staff spoke very little English, which made sorting out problems a nightmare. It cost less than other five-star hotels near the airport, but it definitely didn't feel worthy of five stars. A very mediocre stay.

The indoor pools were a big hit with the kids: one shallow pool, a four-lane pool, and two hot tubs. At the spa area I bought $5 rubber swim caps for the girls, which swimmers are required to wear, using my Bank of America debit card. Our room was spacious, had a kettle, and there was a vending machine with water and noodles that took WeeChat payments. We had a 30-hour Beijing layover with three children aged 4, 5, and 8. The shuttle from Terminal 3 at PEK was quick and easy, maybe three minutes, and you could even walk from the airport. Airport staff, the hotel driver, and the bellmen all helped with our luggage, so I didn't have to lift a finger. We took a five-minute, $2 taxi to Cathway Plaza mall for groceries, ice cream, PizzaHut, clothes, and sushi, instead of eating at one of the hotel's two restaurants. A huge outdoor shopping mall with Uniqlo, MiniSou, and more was about 20 minutes away by $4 taxi. This was a great layover choice for our family. The kids enjoyed the pool and getting a little taste of Beijing.

The breakfast schedule worked well for guests heading out early for morning flights, and the food was great, with something for every appetite. We were there for one night, and the staff were wonderfully attentive. The connecting shuttle brought us straight from the airport, and security felt very high. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the room was well insulated, so we couldn't hear planes taking off or landing.

The carpet was really dirty, and the windows weren't sealed, so winter nights get very cold. This definitely doesn't feel like a five-star hotel.
