My room was on the small side, but it was enough. I had some time to kill before my train, and even though I'd checked out, the friendly staff let me wait in the office center and use the Wi-Fi. The Beijing West high speed rail station is just a very short walk away. Breakfast had a mix of usual Chinese dishes and some breads.

It’s extremely convenient for Beijing West Railway station, but I’m not sure I’d recommend this hotel unless you speak Mandarin or are travelling with someone who does. By the standards of the nationally-owned hotels I’ve stayed at in Beijing, it was pretty average.

This place felt like a haunted hotel. It’s the worst I’ve seen in years, like an old motel from 20-30 years ago. Book it if that’s what you’re after.

The hotel is past its glory days, but it is clean. The room had bottled water, a kettle, tea, and a refrigerator. In the bathroom there was a hairdryer, toiletries, a comb, and a toothbrush with toothpaste. Breakfasts got monotonous and leaned heavily Chinese. The location is great, close to the metro and train station, with local shops nearby.

I still remember my lovely stay at Dafang Hotel in the summer of 2006. I made two friends there, Guo Lijun and Chang Jiancai, but we lost touch since WeChat wasn't around for us then.
