Hanting Hotel Guangqumen

The location made getting around easy, with the subway station just a block away. When we arrived at the Beijing Guangqumen Manxin Hotel, our room wasn’t ready, so the front desk offered water and tea while we waited. Since it was around dinner time, we left our luggage and went out to eat. The room was ready by the time we came back. At check-in, they offered breakfast for less than the price in our original booking, and we gladly took the deal. The room was on the small side but had lots of useful extras: a toiletry bag with single-use items, soft robes, bottled water, coffee machine, and tea. There was a faint smell of smoke despite the no-smoking sign. The light switches were by the bed, which was handy at night but not easy to spot when we first walked in. Breakfast the next morning was so good that I wished we’d bought it for every day. Checkout was just as welcoming, with more snacks and a bottle of hair conditioner from the front desk. I wish I’d asked them for more suggestions on things to see and do in Beijing, since they were knowledgeable and keen to help.

The hotel is well located, and the rooms are clean and tidy. The restaurant serves tasty food with plenty of variety, though it’s all Chinese cuisine, with no bread or Western options. It’s also a little cramped, so there’s often a wait for a table. Staff speak Chinese only, which makes communication difficult.

The food is refined, served in an elegant setting.
