Heyuan International Youth Hostel

The courtyard was a great spot to relax, and the bar area was really nice, fairly priced, and had a pool table. I arrived at 2am, and the place was pretty hard to find since it's tucked away. The rooms were clean and as expected. Compared with other places I've stayed in nearby, this was pleasant.

It's clean and has a nice space to hang out, but service was poor while I was there. There was nobody behind the bar, so I waited 15 minutes to order, then waited an hour for my spaghetti. Toilet paper wasn't provided either, and the receptionist told me to buy some at the shop next door. I've never had that happen anywhere I've stayed before. It's not a bad place, but the service let it down.

The nearest subway station is about 1 km away, so getting there isn't very convenient. Still, it's a nice place, with clean rooms in an old Chinese-style building. There's a yard, a meeting room, and a small bar for drinks and billiards. The managers speak fluent English.

The location is good and the front desk service was good too, and the rooms were okay. But the food was awful. Breakfast took nearly an hour and wasn't edible, and the coffee was horribly strong, almost like coffee jam. The bartender/cook had a serious attitude with me even though I wasn't rude. The waitress was too young and dumb. She spilled about half my drink on the bar, then handed me the gross glass like nothing had happened. If they don't want to provide service, they shouldn't work here. Don't bother trying the food. If they fired her, then go.
