Hotel Kapok Wangfujing

We chose this hotel for its handy spot near the Forbidden City, and the room was large. The staff understood English, and the main King bed was comfortable. Still, I wouldn't pick it again. The rooms are dated, and the central corridor had a very musty smell. The sofa bed was so oddly designed that it felt like sleeping on a wooden table, so my kids ended up joining us in the main bed. Then, while I was showering, I saw a huge cockroach crawling on the bathroom walls. Gross. It could suit someone on a budget who wants a central location, but I'll consider other places on my next Beijing trip.

Loved staying here. The hotel is close to everything, and the breakfast was great for the price. The room was great too, with shoes, a shaving kit, comb, dental kit, shower flip-flops and the other things you'd need. They even included a free minibar with beer, bottled water and soda, though I don't drink. I almost hesitate to leave a good review because I'd like to keep this place a secret. When I come back to Beijing, this is where I'd stay.

A good fit if you like exploring on foot and want somewhere comfortable to return to. There are lots of malls and restaurants within walking distance, as well as the east gate of the forbidden palace. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff are very friendly and speak English. You can also join a tour to the great Wall right at the front desk. I'd recommend it.

There's no shortage of restaurants nearby, and the location is great, about 10 minutes from the eastern gate to the Forbidden City. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well maintained, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is fine for breakfast, though I'd explore nearby for more interesting food.
