I stayed here twice, in October 2001 and January 2004, and spent more than a month here the second time. It’s a great budget hotel with very good service and helpful, friendly staff. The barman, Michael Post, became a good friend.

We loved the hotel's decor, and the staff were lovely. The birds were friendly too, greeting us with "hello" each morning. The room was clean and comfortable, though a bit cramped for two, and the bathroom being opposite the window was inconvenient. Breakfast was Western-style and not very good. I was pleasantly surprised to find a hair dryer in the room. It’s a small thing, but a thoughtful touch. The room was bright, clean, and comfortable, and the hotel’s grand exterior is impressive. It’s also well placed near the subway, so shopping and exploring the surrounding area was easy.

Getting around from here is convenient. The rooms have bathrooms with flush toilets, though the toilet setup differs from Japan, so it’s better not to flush toilet paper. There’s no refrigerator. Breakfast is generally bread, porridge, or steamed buns.

The rooms are clean and decent for a reasonable price. I liked being so central, with Huguosi Street close by for its tasty restaurants and the little old-fashioned shops in the hutongs.
