The building and facilities are old and badly need updating. Although smoking indoors is illegal, the lobby and corridors reeked of smoke. The reception staff were incredibly rude, especially one young woman with a ponytail and round glasses. They never greeted guests or smiled. My elderly mother and I were put on the 11th floor, which I later learned has the conference room and business suites. At night, people kept coming and going loudly, and the noise harassed us. The carpet was filthy, and there was dust and grime everywhere. It was clear the cleaners hadn't done a proper job in years. This is a state-owned place, so they don't care about guests' experiences because they'll never go out of business. Best to avoid it. There are lots of newer, more modern hotels nearby with smart appliances and much better service.

The room was nice, but there wasn't an English-speaking front desk worker when I checked in. Luckily, a friend came with me and translated. Remember to bring 500 RMB for the deposit. You get it back, so keep the slip!

Traffic around the hotel gets quite congested, though that's just how Beijing is and we can't be too critical about it. The hotel is in the heart of the city, near Zhongnanhai and the political center, and has excellent security. It's an economical, affordable option when visiting Beijing and a great deal to consider. The staff are welcoming and very friendly. There's a wide range of authentic Mongolian food, with traditional songs and dances.
