We ended up moving here after a neighboring hostel had overbooked. The owner personally walked us over and sat us down with a complimentary pint of beer, which was a lovely welcome. The place had been fully renovated in May 2012 and felt fresh and neutral rather than especially "chinesey". It's only two minutes from a Line 2 metro stop, so getting around was easy. A great little place if you want somewhere inexpensive that doesn't feel too much like a youth hostel.

The hostel covers the basics, but there's nothing especially memorable about it. The rooms, and especially the bathroom, were filthy. It's down a very dark alley, though it felt relatively safe.

I really liked staying here. It's in a traditional hutong area and has a great location. They also rent bikes and can arrange trips, and the staff were helpful.

We spent a week at Lucky Family Hostel after a week in two five-star hotels, and it was a delight. Our room had a lovely bed and crisp white sheets. The staff were great, friendly and helpful, and answered anything we asked with a smile. Breakfast was great and cost about £2. I give the hostel 100%. China can take an open mind: sanitation and public toilets aren't great, but you learn to accept that. We left with wonderful memories. China is a wonderful country with wonderful people, and this was the best experience we've ever had.

The breakfast was good, and the metro is about five minutes away. It was tricky to find the first time, and the rooms could be cleaner.
