Our stay ended on a lovely note: after two weeks traveling through northeast China in winter, breakfast in the sunlit restaurant was a perfect finish. The food was superb, and the staff were warm, attentive, and kind. The Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing sits in historic hutongs south of Tiananmen Square. Outside, you're in old Beijing, close to landmarks, traditional streets, and excellent dining; inside, the property is calm, private, and removed from the city's pace. Cedric, the manager, greeted us personally, and the thoughtful care continued throughout. Jerry, our personal assistant, arranged bicycles so we could explore at our own pace. He took a casual photo of us when we collected them, then left a handwritten note and that same picture, beautifully framed, in our room that evening. Such a personal gesture, and one we'll treasure. The team also secured a last-minute reservation at a nearby famous Peking duck restaurant, timed before our airport departure. Everything was ready when we arrived, so our final meal wasn't rushed or stressful. The execution was seamless and professional. I've stayed at hotels around the world, but the care and emotional intelligence here stood out. This was hospitality with heart, and I'd happily return.

The Hutong setting gives the new Mandarin Oriental in Beijing a close connection to the city's history and culture, and a distinctive, intimate feel. Inside, the rooms are spacious and beautifully designed, balancing contemporary comfort with a sense of place. Bar Tiao was a highlight, with a lively but polished atmosphere, superb cocktails, and consistently impeccable service. Thanks to Hector, Alice, and the whole bar team for such enjoyable evenings. The wider team were warm, proactive, and always ready to help. Vicky's restaurant suggestions added a lot to our meals in Beijing, and Sandra, our butler, made everything feel seamless. It's a new gem for the city, and I look forward to coming back.

The spa stood out, especially the tea ceremony with Tea Master Lawrence and the sound healing with Spencer. The mix of heritage architecture and modern design, quality amenities, and attentive service made this one of the most distinctive luxury hotels I've stayed in. To me, it's the best hotel in Beijing, if not all of China. I can't wait to return.

Beijing Qianmen Mandarin Oriental Hotel is spread across 42 siheyuan in historic Caochang Hutong, from Alley 3 to 10 in Qianmen district. My room was cosy and spacious, with contemporary chic decor and a lovely courtyard. Service was outstanding from everyone, including the Butlers, Concierges, Front Desk, and staff at both restaurants, the lounge, and the spa.

The breakfast buffet was such a good spread, with food from both international and Chinese cuisines. Don't sleep through it, it's an experience you'll remember. I skipped lunch and dinner at the hotel and went to the nearby Chinatown instead, which is kind of like a Chinatown in China, with lots of Chinese snacks and meals. This is one of the best hotels I've ever visited, and nothing else I've stayed at has beaten it. Rather than one traditional hotel building, the rooms are divided among alleys where you can spot cats at any time. On arrival they greet you and offer you a drink, then take you to your room by golf cart. There was a splendid selection of Chinese snacks waiting in the room, and you can call them any time. The rooms are clean and spacious, and there's a garden where you can sit and read. When you want to get out, take a walk and look around the great shops outside. I stayed three nights and really enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy it too :)
