Park Hyatt Beijing

We changed rooms on the second day, and the new one was cleaner but still had dirty patches on the toilet room floor and carpet stains. The toilet clogged one day; after fixing it, the cleaning lady washed her hands without soap and dried them on the guest towel. I wouldn't trust the towels. In the first room, there was visible mold in the shower, big carpet stains, and a worn cabinet. When I raised these problems, staff didn't seem to take them seriously until I called the Hyatt Globalist line. The bar service was poor too. My husband had stomach problems, so the three of us ordered only two drinks. The waitress rolled her eyes and said, "just 2?" Then our water wasn't refilled and we got no further service. At checkout they offered bathroom samples and chocolates, which felt nowhere near enough for the room condition and the dismissive response. After negotiating, they offered a few thousand points. I declined because that also seemed inadequate. This was my worst Hyatt experience ever. My advice is not to stay there.

I spent a week here, and the room was immaculate. The staff were helpful with my parcel, bringing my order up promptly, and the concierge was willing to go out of their way with my other questions. I'd definitely stay again.

I've stayed here almost every time I've visited Beijing since it opened, and it's sad to see the upkeep and service age along with the building. On this four-night visit, the air conditioning barely worked. Even set low, the room stayed at 28 day and night, while Beijing was scorching. With the down duvet and lining, I kept waking up sweating. The lobby temperature was comfortable, which made the room problem stand out more. Every morning on my way to meetings and again when I returned, the hallway smelled of smoke. For a nonsmoking hotel, that wasn't handled well. My first room also reeked of cigarettes so badly I felt nauseous. The front desk kindly moved me from the high-floor room I'd paid for to a larger room on the lowest, 37th floor. Its layout was awkward, with a secluded sink and shower facing the closet, plus small windows on more sides that gave more street views. There were broken solar panels in the bathroom corner, and the room wasn't well maintained. I didn't ask to move again because I was tired of switching rooms. Room service took over 40 minutes for a club sandwich, and only after I called to ask where it was. It came cut into four pieces, one missing its bottom slice of bread, while the others were loosely held together with picks. Also, the coffee cups, including one with a distinctive crack that I used every day, were never replaced. I can't tell if they were washed and wiped in the room or simply wiped and put back, but neither is acceptable for a Park Hyatt. I rew washed and cleaned mine with alcohol wipes each day. Those were the main problems, though there were other smaller ones. I loved this hotel for years, so it's a pity. There are newer good choices nearby, and I'll try one next time.

The suite was spacious and had a lovely city view, and we had a nice stay overall. We did miss the usual Park Hyatt greetings, with staff not stationed around to welcome guests. The restaurant was good, though we expected more from the steakhouse. Management handled a few small quality issues properly. The bar was a different matter: it took an hour to make two cold hamburgers, then another half hour to remake them. The manager compensated us with a free drink. Staff there struggled with English, including the manager, while the front desk, restaurant, and concierge staff spoke it well. We'd visit again.
