Peace Hotel Beijing

The lobby and room were otherwise super, but what can you do without AC? We're used to UAE AC. The unit wasn’t working, and after I complained they brought a fan, which still wasn’t enough. The windows wouldn’t open, though it was too cold outside for fresh air anyway. I complained again and got another small fan, with the suggestion to leave the door open 😁. So people could watch us walk past and sit on the bed 😁😁. Guess we’ll sleep somehow with the fan noise and the door open, like I’m back in my village in Pakistan 🤣🤣. We’d already had a six-hour delay with China Southern airline from YIWO to Beijing. I can share a photo if needed.

There’s a helpful 'Halal' label on each breakfast item, which is great for Muslim travelers, and you can also easily find Halal restaurants nearby. The hotel is close to Wangfujing Street and Jinyu Hutong MRT station, about 200 m straight from the entrance. The room was spacious and had good facilities.

Housekeeping staff were generally friendly, but they entered my room even when the “Not Now” sign was on the door, which I assume means “do not disturb.” It makes you wonder what the sign is for. The bed was rock hard, almost like sleeping on the floor, and the toilet sometimes failed to flush. The location is a real plus, close to a metro station that makes getting around the city much easier. A few staff members speak some English, which helps for basic communication. At check-in, though, I got no information at all about breakfast or hotel facilities. Someone just walked me to the right elevator and left me to figure out the rest. Some reception staff were helpful. One person ordered a taxi for me when I couldn’t use the Didi app. Later, when I had the same problem arranging a ride to the airport, they looked at it briefly and then left me to handle it myself. Comfort and service were disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here for those. There are surely better options in the same price range in Beijing.

We lost about 30 minutes because the hotel couldn’t find our Agoda booking number. We contacted Agoda and got confirmation that the third party, booking.com, had confirmed the booking and the hotel had received it. The front desk then explained the misunderstanding, but kept giving the same explanation. They didn’t seem to understand that an Agoda booking reference doesn’t have to use the same format. At least they did try to sort it out.
