The staff were polite, and the basic amenities worked, but the worn condition of the place really doesn't feel like a modern four-star hotel. Hallway and room carpets were stained, threadbare, and even torn in places. My bathroom door had obvious water damage, and there was still a cigarette smell despite housekeeping's efforts. At ¥400-500 RMB a night, I'd call it fair value if you expect a budget or midrange stay. The building seems like it may have been quite upscale 30-40 years ago, but time has taken its toll. It's advertised as four-star, though my experience was closer to two or three stars by today's standards, so guests expecting a real four-star stay could be disappointed.

I made new friends during my hostel stay, as usual, and found it a quiet place with clean linen. It's a comfortable, clean spot for backpackers in the middle of the city, about 500 meters from Lama Temple subway station. The surrounding streets may look a little sketchy, but they don't actually feel risky for foreigners.

A pretty decent hotel, with a charming interior and a generous breakfast spread. The room was clean, there was a wardrobe, towels were changed daily, and it had satellite TV and good WiFi. Lots of little touches that make traveling easier.

Really bad hotel. The air conditioning was awful, and I couldn't find anyone to help because I couldn't communicate with any of the staff. Nobody there spoke English.
