Sofu Hotel

The location is excellent, and our room was sizeable for Beijing, but those were the only good parts of our week-long stay in October, considered the 'low season'. The hotel turns off the air-conditioning then, leaving the room constantly hot even though it was 15-18 degrees Celsius outside. The staff spoke poor English and were slow with questions. We asked them to order a taxi 12 hours before our airport departure, but they called only half an hour before we were due to leave to say it hadn't been arranged and suggest their more expensive airport shuttle. The bathroom leaked from the toilet, shower, and floor tiles, so we spread towels on the floor to avoid tripping. I rarely write reviews, but my partner and I felt compelled to share this. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone who isn't in very good physical health, or to people who have trouble sleeping in a hot, sweaty room. I especially think it's dangerous for elderly people. Despite the good location and room size, it isn't safe to stay here and the customer service is poor.

The room and shower were both great, and the staff were professional and tried hard to help. The morning supervisor was a nice lady who spoke English. I like this hotel. It's small, yeah, so it doesn't feel crowded with tourists. Breakfast was the one thing I didn't like as much.

The hotel is in a very good spot, with a subway stop nearby and plenty of restaurants around. Rooms are really big and comfortable, and breakfast was tasty, with both Chinese and Western food. A very nice hotel.

The stay at Sofu hotel was good overall during our 7 days there, from 6/8-6/15/2018, but it ended badly. On the final night, my mom found that 1500RMB was missing. She had wrapped all her cash in a piece of paper and left it under her pillow for more than 24hours because she thought the hotel was safe, rather than using the safe. When she opened it to buy toys for her grandson, all 15 of the 100RMB bills were gone, with only small bills and coins left. We tried to reach the owner, but were told they weren't available. Two managers responded, but neither offered an effective solution, so we reported it to the local police. They arrived around 10:30pm and took us to the police station for further investigation. We got back to the hotel almost 3am, and I left at 5am for my flight without sleeping. After the incident, the front desk staff were cold and reluctant when I asked for a taxi to the airport. I know this whole mess wouldn't have happened if my mom had used the safe, and I wonder whether it would have happened at another hotel. She travels many times a year, has stayed in various hotels, and never had money go missing before, though she doesn't make a habit of using hotel safes. At the police station, I learned the house keeping lady on duty that day was brand new and hadn't received any pay yet. I'm not saying she did it, but I do wonder how Sofu hotel checks employee backgrounds. I hope this doesn't happen to another customer.
