The room is a bit basic for the price, but the place's Chinese-style decoration is the main draw. Staying there feels like stepping back in time to ancient China, tucked away in Beijing's Hutong maze. We arrived early after an overnight flight, and the welcoming staff gave us a sofa and their own coats to keep warm while we took a short nap. For a tip, ask the receptionist to show you how to make tea the Chinese way!
The staff were polite, chatted with guests, and offered help when anything came up. The hotel itself has a clear, beautiful well and lots of traditional Chinese details, from lanterns and a dragon chair to golden pillows and clever little cups on the tables. The rooms go in a Western direction, with comfy sofas for watching Xiaomi TV and little cradles you can rock in. It felt relaxing and comfortable. Getting around is convenient, with Shichahai train station nearby. Food choices are plentiful too. Qianhai night market has lots of tasty options, and the lamb skewers at Kao Rou Ji are worth trying. Nearby breakfast shops serve good millet porridge and beef buns. For dinner, Beimen Dianrou Dian is in an old alley with imposing stone lions at the entrance, and serves very fresh, delicious lamb and vegetable dishes. The grilled lamb skewers next door are tasty as well. There are plenty of places to get fruit and Beijing yogurt, too. Those sweet, juicy peaches will make your mouth water!
