I was visiting Peking University and didn’t stay at the hotel, but had a business dinner there with two faculty members. The setting and dishes worked perfectly for that purpose, and the dishes all had very poetic names. The crab with hefen, sticky glass noodles, was flavorful and nice. The food was decent overall, though the Roasted Peking Duck was too greasy for me, and I’ve had better at other restaurants.

The hotel is in a good spot near the center, about a 10-minute walk from Panjiayuan underground station. One thing to watch out for: Google Maps puts it in the wrong place. It’s closer to Beijing city center than the map shows. You can see the correct location on the hotel ticket.

It’s a good hotel overall, close to Peking University and Tsinghua University. The rooms can get quite warm, even after fiddling with the temperature, and some have a strong cigarette smell despite the hotel being listed as non-smoking.

The Lakeview Hotel is next to Peking University, and the rooms are very spacious, well appointed, and well maintained. Staff are ready to help, and there are several restaurants for different dining needs. Everything else was perfect for me, but I wish there were Wi-Fi in the rooms. They only have wired internet there, while wireless access is available in the ground-floor facilities, so I had to go downstairs to get news on my tablet.

The breakfast buffet was awesome, and the rooms had plenty of space. The front desk staff spoke English and were friendly, as were the housekeeping team. Sun Jia Xia always made up our room with a smile.
