The Twenty First Century Hotel

A clean, tidy place with fairly basic rooms and acceptable rates, though prices are best avoided during busy periods. The subway is walkable, and one change gets you into the city centre. It’s also near the train station for the airport express.

A nice spot near the embassies and foreigners, with a reasonable price.

The staff were friendly and efficient. After I broke a glass, they told me at checkout there was no need to pay for it. Reception also uses translation equipment, so communication is possible in different languages if you don’t speak Chinese. The rooms are small, but comfortable and nicely designed, with carpet, a bathtub, toothbrushes and Japanese-style smart toilets with handy controls. There are two sofas, a little table, vanity, big TV, mini-fridge and bathroom hairdryer, but no iron. The hotel is about a 45-minute drive from the airport and 30 minutes from the city center. It faces a main road and has plenty of parking. Across from it is a sports complex with gym, pool and tennis courts. The hotel itself has no pool, but you can buy a 120 NTD multi-activity pass to swim there. The lobby is spacious, with a large restaurant used for wedding receptions. Breakfast is served on the second floor. Give your room number when ordering, or buy breakfast there if it wasn’t included in your booking. The breakfast is quite good, with Western and Vietnamese choices, especially the delicious noodle soup. There aren’t many tables, and most seat 10-15, so expect to share. For affordable food, exit the hotel, turn right, then left at the intersection. There’s a row of eateries with well-prepared dishes for 18-40 yuan, and a convenience store opposite. Turn left from the hotel to find Lucky Street on the left. Past that is the very large Solana shopping mall, with a full range of brands.
