At 23 o'clock, I arrived without a reservation, since I hadn’t been able to get internet in China last year and hoped to find shelter at the Frog, where I’d stayed before. There were no rooms available. I asked the boy at reception if I could at least sit in an armchair for the night, but he refused and said the laoban/boss wouldn’t allow it. A hotel very nearby offered me that kind of humane hospitality naturally and for free, without negotiation or begging. Respect to them. Goodbye forever to the Frog.

The clean room could use renovation, and while the hostel was undergoing a slow renovation during our visit, the public area looked like a construction side. Staff spoke limited but usable English. Cold drinks were available inside at good prices, along with wifi and PC terminals. It’s a really central hostel, in a small street that leads to a big shopping-street, making it a good base for foodies. Taxis are easy to get from there.

I stayed here for about a month 10 years ago. Good location, and happy hour had cheap draft beer. I’d be very surprised if it was still around.

The bathroom smelled of urine the whole time, and mosquitoes were everywhere. Dust and hair covered every corner of the room. I was there in July, and they didn’t turn on the air conditioner, so it was hot and uncomfortable. God awful. I left early.

Cheap for such a central spot. It can get a little noisy, but the vibe is good overall.
