I’ve returned to this hotel several times over the past 15 years. It’s convenient for the Zoo and planetarium, with Beijing Zoo metro station about a 5-7 minute walk away. The rooms are large and clean, and the staff are consistently polite. The rooftop breakfast has plenty of European choices, including bacon, eggs, bakery items, and juices. Lunch and dinner buffets are usually Chinese and can feel repetitive on a longer stay. The Wi-Fi also seemed slower than hotel internet in other countries.

The location worked well for getting around: Beijing Zoo and Erligou metro stations are both a 5-10 minute walk, with easy links across the city and especially to the university area. I stayed at XiYuan for a month and found the hospitality authentically Chinese and very warm. Several staff members spoke English, and internationally issued Visa or Mastercard worked for payment. My room had a ‘90s feel, which I liked, while still having the modern facilities I expected. Housekeeping came daily and was always irreproachable. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

The staff were super friendly, and the hotel was clean and nice. It’s near the museums and Zoo, with the metro about a 10-minute walk away.

The restaurant at the top of the building has a beautiful city view. The location is convenient, though the cottages aren’t standard. It felt like an average three-star hotel.
