Restaurants line the street, including Bibi chi next door, which has karaoke and a restaurant, plus another restaurant with amazing food. There's a Papa John's and KFC down the street, and a Pizza Hut on the next street over. The hotel is clean and modern, with the basic amenities you'd expect from an American brand, except for a pool. Breakfast is a pretty good continental spread: eggs, toast, sausage, cereal, tea, and coffee, along with traditional Chinese breakfast options.

It's affordable and gets the job done. As is common in China, though, nobody speaks English, either at the hotel or around the city.

We chose the Hanting Asian Games Village branch because it was easy to find and in a lively area near the Bird's Nest, which we planned to visit. I was in Beijing to see my parents and wanted comfort at a reasonable price. I've always liked Hanting Hotels, and after my family in Shanghai unanimously agreed, I've kept booking with them. The lobby here was bright and spacious, and the rooms were clean and roomy. The family room I booked was especially spacious and very nice.
