W Changsha

As a Marriott Platinum member, I expect Marriott hotels to provide efficient, high-standard service. My stay at W Changsha from April 22 to April 25, 2024 fell well short. I spent nearly two months contacting the hotel repeatedly because only one of my three nights had initially been credited to my account. It took a great deal of time and effort to get the mistake fixed. Eventually, someone corrected it and added the missing nights. I asked for extra points to make up for the inconvenience, but the request was turned down, which was disappointing. I hope Marriott Group improves customer service and resolves issues more efficiently so other guests don’t have the same experience.

The front desk seemed a little inexperienced with foreign passports, which slowed down check-in somewhat. The hotel has an ultra-modern feel, as if it were designed to resemble life on a spaceship. The elevators have digital backgrounds and use your room card to take you automatically to your floor. The rooms follow the same modern style, with a bathtub and a choice of handheld or rain shower.

The nightclub-style atmosphere makes this hotel feel distinctive, though it may not suit everyone. My bedding wasn’t very comfortable, and I struggled to sleep well. The hotel’s overall quality also felt a bit short of what I’d expect from a five-star luxury property. I think it would suit younger travelers who want a trendy, edgy place. If you’re after a more traditional or luxurious stay, it may not be the right fit, but it could work for someone open to a lively, different experience.

W Changsha offers luxury throughout a stay and feels like a great place to be away from home. Changsha is in a perfect spot for a hotel visit in China, in the far western part of the eastern mainland, near mountains, natural national park regions, and the large, beautiful business city of Chengdu. The area between Chengdu and Changsha has at least three working airports, along with many recreational and convention locations.
