Hilton Garden Inn Chengde High-Tech Zone

We had a friendly reception at check-in, and were given a room on a high floor. The receptionist also scanned my WeChat so it would be easy to contact the hotel later. The room was spacious and beautiful, and the bathroom was separate from the toilet, with the washbasin outside both. The breakfast had lots of choice and was good. The hotel is also close to a night market with plenty of street food, including a stall selling very tasty Chu Cheong fun. Still, my one-night stay wasn't a pleasant experience. The room was stuffy and hot, with the afternoon temperature reaching 25 degrees Celcius. There was just one tiny window that opened a little, and the air conditioning was centrally controlled, so I couldn't adjust it. I called reception to ask why it didn't seem to work, and was told it was centrally set. Even though the facilities were complete, I couldn't get comfortable or sleep well, and had to rely on outside air coming through that small window. Arriving was difficult too. Cars crowded the entrance, and the parking attendant didn't help when my driver dropped us off. He only wanted the car unloaded and moved quickly, and offered no assistance. I'm not sure if he worked for the Hilton, but if he did, that service wasn't up to Hilton's customer service standard. We had one large luggage and several smaller bags, which we had to carry up a few flights of stairs. The sliding path to the entrance wasn't in front, but tucked along the side and partly obscured by parked cars. After checking out, I realized I might have left my travel adaptor in the room. I immediately messaged the hotel on WeChat, but it took two days to hear back, and they told me to contact the front desk myself. They ask guests to add them on WeChat, yet still told me to call. Not every tourist has a local Sim card to make calls. They should have checked with the front desk and replied through WeChat. This Hilton still has a long way to go to earn a better rating.
