I’ve been coming here every few weeks since I was a kid, and it’s always been one of my favorite spots. It’s an old town with a strong local Chinese feel. The barbecue is honestly very good, and I’d recommend the local specialty crispy tofu pudding as well.
I love Jiezi Ancient Town. It’s a small, clean and beautiful town beside the river, with lots of food stalls to pick from. Try silky tofu pudding near the Four Ginkgo Tree square, it was delicious. The old stone street was peaceful, with kids playing happily there. Even though the town is small, it has a mix of culture, traditions, businesses and architecture. People who lived here in the past must have been very wealthy.
It’s still a pleasant place to spend a day wandering the lanes, picking up local souvenirs and trying snacks. But the town isn’t well maintained, and its distinctive character has faded until it feels like other commercialized old towns. It’s one of Cheng Du’s 10 popular old towns, around a two-hour drive from the CBD. Built by a river more than a thousand years ago, it suffered severe damage in the 2008 Wen Chuan earthquake. Most of it has since been rebuilt or refurbished to imitate traditional design.
I visited on 26 Feb'24. It has an ancient China town atmosphere and makes a good attraction, with plenty of shops for ice cream, drinks, food, snacks and souvenirs.
Just a very ordinary, commercialized old town.
