Hazens Hotel (Chengdu Chunxi Road, Tianfu Square)

The staff were friendly, and they provided kids' amenities. Drinks in the fridge were free, and there was a free laundry machine to use. It's a great location, just a few minutes' walk from the nearest station, which is right across the street.

The Chinese staff really made us happy. We were on an overnight layover from Tokyo to Moscow, arriving at 10:00 PM, and the subway ride was easy at 11 yuan. I picked this city-center hotel so we could stroll around the sights in the morning, and that worked well. People's Park was a seven-minute walk away. We checked in smoothly at 11:30 PM, and I liked that reception was open 24 hours. The lobby smelled incredibly pleasant, like green tea. Breakfast was good too, and after Japan we especially enjoyed the broccoli and potatoes. Since we weren't heading to the airport until 1:00 PM, we checked out at 9:00 AM and went for a walk. The staff stored our luggage in the luggage room, and the lovely girls even offered tea before we left. The one downside was the window. We'd never stayed in a room with one facing a hallway and weren't sure how it worked. Behind the curtains, it looked onto a small corridor and a similar window in another room across from ours. If you're only there to sleep, you hardly notice, but in the morning it felt like being in a furniture showroom because there was no regular window. It won't suit everyone, especially for stays over two nights. The air conditioning worked well and partly made up for the lack of fresh air.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hotel has a stylish look. Breakfast was good too. It’s really close to Tianfu Airport, which makes it handy if you land in Chengdu late. I had a great stay.
