Hilton Chengdu Chenghua - Close to Panda Base and Chengdu East Railway Station

Traveling alone to Chengdu for surgery might have felt lonely, but the breakfast staff made me feel welcomed and looked after, almost like I was being cared for at home. I live in Australia and am not used to that kind of genuine, warm care. It reminded me of the best side of Eastern hospitality. I recently had surgery and can only eat soft or finely cut food. Joe, the breakfast duty manager, briefed the team in advance, and each morning someone kindly prepared food to suit my needs. The chef making the small noodles deserves special mention too. You could tell they took care with the texture to get it just right. The help went far beyond what I expected. My heartfelt thanks to Joe and the whole restaurant team. I hope Joe and the F&B team receive a monthly award or some other recognition. They truly deserve it.

The 17th-floor lounge was a lovely place to unwind after a full day exploring Chengdu. Hilton Chengdu Chenghua is modern and luxurious, with smooth check-in and check-out. Duty Manager Bob Song handled our requests promptly and took good care of us. Since the hotel sits on the 2nd ring road, it was easy to take a Didi to the airport or city center and avoid the heavy traffic in the heart of town. One small thing that could improve the stay is staff approachability. Many seemed hesitant to start a conversation or engage, and at times we felt overlooked. A warmer atmosphere would help, especially for guests used to the welcoming hospitality in Malaysia and Thailand. Even so, we had an excellent stay.

The location is pretty central to the middle of Chengdu CBD, and there are plenty of taxis around if you don't want to use the metro. We had a really lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone happy to splurge a bit. The room was beautiful, with a huge bathtub, a lovely walk-in shower, new amenities, and marble details I liked. The bed was really comfortable, and the hotel had left extra pillows in the closet without us needing to ask. The staff made a big difference. One receptionist asked us to add her on WeChat, then sent loads of useful details about the hotel facilities and things to do around Chengdu besides seeing the pandas. She also gave us a private tour of the hotel facilities and was happy to answer our questions. We enjoyed the food on the 17th floor too. We tried the afternoon tea and evening dining, with plenty to choose from, including sandwiches, Chinese cooked dishes, candy, drinks, and desserts. The staff were accommodating with our larger table and helped us find seats easily.

The hallway smelled of cigarette smoke, and the room door let in a lot of noise. I could clearly hear other guests opening their doors and talking. Smoking is allowed at this hotel.
